02/05/2016

Worcester, Massachusetts — February 5, 2016— Mirick O’Connell Joins the American Heart Association In the Fight Against Heart Disease with a Special Event on Go Red Day.

Heart Disease is the No. 1 killer of women. On Friday, February 5, 2016, Mirick O'Connell will Go Red to raise awareness of this critical issue, and to raise funds to support education and medical research. Mirick O'Connell employees will show commitment to the fight against heart disease by raising funds through a $5 jeans day, purchasing raffle tickets and proudly wearing the color red. The Firm will also be hosting a lunch and learn for its employees to discover ways to be more heart healthy with presentations by cardiac rehab specialists. Mirick O'Connell's commitment does not stop there, on May 7, 2016, the Firm will be participating in the Central MA Heart Walk.

Funds raised by the Go Red For Women movement enable the American Heart Association to help women by offering educational programs, increasing women's understanding about their risk for heart disease and supporting research to discover scientific knowledge about heart health.

Since the first National Wear Red Day ten years ago, tremendous strides have been made in the fight against heart disease in women, including:

  • 21% fewer women dying from heart disease
  • 23% more women aware that it is their No. 1 health threat
  • Publishing of gender-specific results, established differences in symptoms and responses to medications and women-specific guidelines for prevention and treatment
  • Legislation to help end gender disparities
But, the fight is far from over, as hundreds of thousands of women still die each year from heart disease. We encourage you to help spread the word, and to show your support by wearing something red on Friday, February 5th. Together, we can make a difference!
