D. M. Moschos Receives 2013 Cushing-Gavin Labor-Management Counsel Award

Worcester, Massachusetts - Mirick O’Connell is proud to announce that the Labor Guild of the Archdiocese of Boston will be honoring Attorney D. M. Moschos, a senior partner in the Firm’s Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Group, with the 2013 Cushing-Gavin Labor-Management Counsel Award at the Labor Guild’s annual awards dinner on Friday, December 6, 2013.

The Labor Guild is an organization of labor-management professionals that seeks to promote cooperation and integrity in employee relations matters. Each year, the Labor Guild salutes four labor relations professionals in Massachusetts for their commitment to labor-management relations, professional competence, moral integrity and concern for the community.

 

Launched in 1967 and named after one of Boston’s most esteemed Archbishops, Richard Cushing, the awards program aims to:

• provide well-deserved recognition to individual practitioners for excellence and singular service in labor-management affairs;
• offer both inspiration and education to the general labor-management community by showcasing outstanding contributors;

Attorney Moschos has personally conducted more than 600 labor negotiations, including numerous negotiations involving teachers, manufacturing workers, hospital employees, and public employees. He founded the labor and employment practice at the Firm. He is currently labor counsel for various private and public employers in Massachusetts and regularly advises employers on labor and employment law issues. In addition, he provides pro bono legal services to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and Catholic Charities of Worcester, where he is a former President.

Attorney Moschos is a former Assistant City Manager of the City of Worcester, Massachusetts, New England’s second largest city, where he served as the Chief Operating Officer of the City’s government. During his legal career, he participated in drafting Massachusetts’ Public Sector Labor Statute. He also drafted the first law in America establishing a Joint Labor-Management Committee, a quasi-government agency, to resolve police and fire labor disputes by the parties instead of the utilization of the State’s arbitration agency. Attorney Moschos is also an adjunct instructor in collective bargaining at Clark University. The Diocese of Worcester, St. Thomas Society, has awarded the Society’s Ecumenical award to Attorney Moschos.

Attorney Moschos has been named one of Massachusetts "Super Lawyers" by Boston magazine and Law & Politics. Human Resource Executive Magazine and Lawdragon have recognized him as being one of the "Top 100 Corporate Employment Attorneys in the United States."  He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America ©2014 in the field of Employment Law - Management (Copyright 2014 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC). Mr. Moschos was also named in the Best Lawyers' 2013 edition as Worcester’s Management "Lawyer of the Year." In 2013, he was awarded honorary membership into the International City Management Association (ICMA). Honorary membership in ICMA is awarded to an individual outside of the profession of local government management because of his or her distinguished public service and contribution to the improvement and strengthening of local government.

Mr. Moschos is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University Law School and served in the United States Army as a Captain.
