    Brian is a registered patent attorney and the chair of the firm's Intellectual Property Group. He has more than 20 years of experience counseling clients in worldwide patent procurement and enforcement strategies. He also represents clients in patent infringement proceedings in federal courts throughout the United States.

    His practice focuses on representing companies with critical intellectual property requirements. He assists clients in developing strategies to procure patents in the United States and overseas. He writes and prosecutes patent applications throughout the world. He also counsels and assists clients in procuring trademarks and copyrights. Brian has experience positioning intellectual property assets for sale or license and negotiating and drafting intellectual property transfer agreements.

    Brian is active in patent litigation matters, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in courts throughout the country. He also counsels clients in pre-litigation strategies aimed at bolstering intellectual property assets, and prospectively resolving potential disputes.


    Representative Matters

    • Built a portfolio of U.S. and foreign patents for a technology company that was instrumental in the company's successfully raising equity capital to fund product development and rollout

    • Secured a permanent injunction and a contempt-of-court decision, a verdict of willful patent infringement, and a multi-million dollar damage award against a client's primary competitor

    • Developed a patent portfolio with founding inventors for an orthodontic consumer baby product, and successfully out-licensed the portfolio to an international manufacturer

    • Successfully negotiated business agreements for further development and distribution of custom medical devices, laboratory instruments, and dental products, based on a client's core technology

    • Developed and executed a complex litigation-based strategy to secure sole ownership of an intellectual property portfolio relating to a client's core business technology

    • Initiated re-examination proceedings of patents asserted against a client in infringement proceedings, resulting in successful resolution of litigation and providing a path forward for the client
